Plumbing Trouble-Shooting Tips

Some residential plumbing and piping problems are simple enough that you may be able to solve them yourself.

Here are some common solutions that you may want to try before requesting a service call.

Check reset button.
Turn off power.
Dislodge obstruction with the hex key wrench provided with the garbage disposal. (Insert it into the opening at the bottom-center of the disposal.)

Follow the relighting instructions on the water heater.
If that doesn't work, turn off the gas as a safety measure, and then call Risse.

Remove screened aerator on the spout of the faucet by turning it counter-clockwise. Clean and reinstall it.

Don't try to fix it yourself; call Risse immediately, or fill out online service request form.

When the technician arrives, provide as much information as you can as to the nature and location of the problem:

Is sewage flowing into the tub or shower drain? If so, it is likely to be a main line stoppage.
Are other fixtures functioning properly? If so, the stoppage is probably isolated.

Look inside the tank and:

Check the chain to see if it is hung up on something.
Check the ball or cup on the fill mechanism; it may be stuck.
If this doesn't solve the problem, shut off the water to the toilet and call Risse, or fill out our online service request form.
